This week, I hit a huge milestone—100kg squat for three reps! It’s been at least five or six years since I last attempted that weight, and back then, I could only manage one rep. This time, it felt different. This time, I knew I had it.
But getting to this point wasn’t just about lifting heavy every week. It was about mindset, structure, and the power of community. Here’s what made the difference:
There’s always that one exercise that feels like a mental block—for me, it’s always been squats. I knew I had the strength, but mentally, it was a challenge.
The breakthrough came when I fully committed to structured strength training. I’ve always understood the importance of progressive overload—where you gradually increase reps, weight, or time under tension—but I hadn’t been applying it consistently to my squat. That changed when I joined The Strength Connection team sessions.
Training in a small-group strength program meant there was no skipping steps. With the RFT coaches’ guidance and the motivation of a like-minded community, I had no choice but to show up and put in the work. And week after week, that work paid off.
Lifting isn’t just about physical strength—it’s mental.
Surrounding myself with people who push and believe in me was a game-changer. Having training partners like @mattyjp43 and @nicky0785 in my ear saying:
“You’ve got this.”
“You’re going heavier next set.”
“That’s easy for you!”
That kind of encouragement? Priceless. Add in the energy of an entire group cheering you on, and suddenly, the weight feels lighter.
Now that I’ve hit 100kg for 3 reps, my next focus is more depth. Watching @simcowra squat the other day inspired me—I’m coming for that next level!
There’s something powerful about training in a team and having coaches who see your potential before you do.
Life is good. 😎
